Summary

The primary purpose of the Food Service Worker is to perform tasks with several steps or a sequence of tasks that requires attention to work operations. They follow set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow an established sequence of work such as working in the dish room – passing trays – portioning cold foods and dipping hot foods.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience and training of sufficient scope and quality are required. Evidence of knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Screening will be against prescribed screen‑out elements and further rating against additional job elements such as Dexterity, Safety, Materials, Technical Practices, Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment, Work Practices and Experience.

Duties
  • Sets up and breaks down assigned station with correct supplies and food items.
  • Portions food items into standard serving sizes and selects and places correct items on patient trays.
  • Decides what food items to serve for the most common diets and identifies obvious discrepancies between prescribed diets and food items.
  • Sets up dining room tables for service – places food and beverages on tables and replenishes items as necessary.
  • Delivers meal trays to patients’ bedsides and reports patients’ comments and complaints to supervisor or dietitian.
  • Provides assistance to cooks in food preparation area – weighs, measures and assembles ingredients according to standardized recipes.
  • Prepares fresh fruit/cold salads, dressings, sandwich fillings and cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts.
  • Reads and interprets regular or modified menus – individual diet cards, tray tickets or patient selections; performs heavy‑duty cleaning tasks throughout food service and related areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule:

    Full‑time – 7:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m.; rotating schedule includes weekends and holidays.
  • Physical Requirements:

    May be required to perform heavy work such as scouring and scrubbing large cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance of others.
