The Center for Human Development (CHD) is seeking Lead Residential Counselors to join our Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC) in Chicopee, MA. CHD’s CBHC provides urgent behavioral health care through outpatient clinics, crisis services, and crisis stabilization.

Your role as a Crisis Stabilization – Lead Residential Counselor:

CHD’s Community Behavioral Health Center offers Youth (13-17) and Adult (18+) Crisis Stabilization Units. Crisis stabilization is a short-term, voluntary program providing intensive behavioral health stabilization as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. Services include crisis intervention, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, nursing care, individual and group therapy, peer support, short-term treatment planning, discharge planning, and coordination with service providers. The Lead Residential Counselor will lead shifts while supporting staff and clients.

Essential Functions include:

  • Providing support and supervision to clients
  • Delegating or running house meetings
  • Ensuring daily schedules are followed
  • Supervising Residential Counselors
  • Updating the MABHA website during shifts
  • Assisting clinicians with communication with collateral contacts
  • Collaborating with MCI around admissions
  • Leading shift change meetings, ensuring staff are prepared and informed
  • Running skills groups for clients during shifts
  • Supporting counselors with electronic health records
  • Managing client insurance processes
  • Ensuring clients are enrolled/dis-enrolled in Crisis Stabilization
  • Following all policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Assisting in onboarding and training staff
  • Modeling professional, trauma-informed service delivery
  • Performing other tasks as assigned
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or significant experience in the field
    • Ability to pass a CORI and driving record background check
    • Participation in optional and required evidence-based training programs such as ARC, de-escalation, TF-CBT, Zero Suicide, and Multi-Systemic Family Therapy

    Success Factors:

    The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with youth and adults in mental health, strong problem-solving and de-escalation skills, and flexibility to work various shifts. Availability for 1st and 2nd shifts on weekdays and weekends is preferred.

    Pay rate is $25.50/hr, with benefits including dental, health, and life insurance, paid time off, vacation, and holidays.
