Job/Department Summary:
Working independently, under general supervision, incumbent is responsible for providing the full range of skilled plumbing work, as outlined in the CSU Classification and Qualification Standard (Standard) for the Plumber Series, including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, to ensure a clean, safe and attractive learning environment.
Position makes decisions based upon sound maintenance practices. Incumbents in this classification also may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
Some positions may be assigned water treatment duties that involve monitoring, testing and chemically treating potable and/or non-potable water systems. This work requires the incumbent to possess the applicable water treatment certification.
Required Education and Experience:
The knowledge and skills listed above would typically be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber's apprenticeship program.
Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
- Journeyman Certificate
- Five years of demonstrated journey-level plumbing experience
Pay Plan: 12/12
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm
CSU Classification Salary Range: $71,976 (Step
1) - $104,844 (Step 20) per year.

The person holding this position is considered a "Limited Mandated Reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.
Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.
The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination.
