Overview

This classification is scheduled to receive a 5% COLA effective July 2026. This recruitment will be limited to the first 75 applicants. The recruitment will close upon receiving 75 applications.

New employees generally start at the beginning of the salary range. The salary range has 7 steps with employees typically starting at step 1 and moving to step 2 upon the completion of a successful one-year probationary period. Each year thereafter, upon completion of successful performance, employees move to subsequent next step. Each step represents a 5% increase.

Definition

Under general supervision, provides assistance to Social Workers – Child Welfare by performing specifically assigned support functions in social services settings and client homes.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general supervision from a Social Work Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

Typical functions may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, and other characteristics.   • Performs designated tasks as assigned, including facilitating communications between the client, family and community services and assisting clients in obtaining essential services.
  • Reports and records observations; visits applicants and recipients of social services in homes, hospitals and placement facilities; refers concerns to Social Work Supervisor.
  • Answers informational and referral services telephone calls from Social Workers and the general public.
  • Performs case maintenance functions; organizes files; mails correspondence; updates database; generates and processes a variety of legal documents and other related materials.
  • Interviews clients to obtain needed data and verify data; interviews family, relatives, and other parties to obtain and verify specific information regarding the case.
  • Screens information for accuracy; requests required documents; verifies and validates data.
  • Assists clients in accessing community services, particularly medical, legal and employment services.
  • Communicates policies, rules, and regulations of the program to clients and others within the scope of responsibility.
  • Performs a variety of administrative support functions for the department.
  • Supervises visits with parents and children, documents events, and may provide childcare in the Children’s Service’s offices.
  • Transports children who are dependents of the Court to appointments using age-appropriate car seats and/or restraints.
  • Transports parents of dependent children to Court hearings, drug testing, visits with children, and various appointments within the community.
  • Assists parties in the completion of forms; searches files and other documents for required and relevant information.
  • Supports the relationship between Butte County and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and other employees.
  • Adheres to the standards of the Privacy Act of 1974, {U.S.C. § 552A} as amended; maintains and enforces all aspects of confidentiality of client information.
