Courier Driver

Overview

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a driver to join their Transport Department, working amongst a team of drivers. The closing date is 19 February 2026.

The role requirements are based on a courier-style service to healthcare establishments in and around Sussex, ensuring the communities receive the treatment and resources they need. The role is predominantly based at St Richard's Hospital, with occasional work across the Trust as required.

Courier duties include multiple deliveries and collections of pathology, pharmacy, medical records, surgical instruments and replenishment of GP surgery items across Sussex. All drivers are required to carry out electronic vehicle checks and complete necessary paperwork on a daily basis. General maintenance and daily cleaning tasks in line with Infection Control Policy are compulsory on each shift.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Driver required to support the busy hospital in-house transport service operating from St Richards and Worthing Hospitals.
• Courier duties include multiple deliveries and collections of pathology, pharmacy, medical records, pharmaceuticals and sterile services throughout West Sussex. All drivers are required to carry out electronic vehicle checks and complete necessary paperwork on a daily basis. General maintenance and cleaning of the vehicles is also compulsory on each shift you work.

• The post holder will be required to work amongst a small team of drivers but predominantly alone. You will be responsible for reporting all vehicle defects to the relevant persons. You will come into contact with Trust staff, external stakeholders and members of the public.
• Vehicle safety and maintenance checks are key to the daily driving role. It is crucial to report any maintenance/defects/damage immediately.

• D1 entitlement
