Job Overview

Above and Beyond Food Pantry is seeking a dependable, flexible, and mission-aligned Part-Time Driver to support our food rescue operations. This position provides supplemental driving coverage for our two full-time drivers and includes certain pre-scheduled workdays each month based on known operational needs. While these scheduled shifts are anticipated, the position does not include a guaranteed minimum number of hours or a fixed recurring schedule.

In addition to driving responsibilities, there may be occasional times when operational needs require this role to assist within the pantry, such as helping with unloading deliveries, organizing storage areas, or supporting basic pantry operations. These duties are intended to support daily workflow and team coordination and do not replace the primary driving function of the role.

Additional work opportunities may be offered with limited advance notice due to unforeseen staff absences or changing partner needs. Acceptance of any additional shift is voluntary.

This position does not require on-call availability, standby time, or guaranteed availability outside of scheduled shifts.

This role is highly visible and serves as a daily point of contact with pantry staff, volunteers, and community partners. Strong, respectful relationships are essential, as the driver regularly represents Above and Beyond Food Pantry to food donors, partner organizations, and community collaborators. Professional communication, reliability, and a collaborative approach are critical to the success of this position.

• Operate a refrigerated van and 15' refrigerated box truck to pick up and deliver food and supplies
• Provide driving coverage for pre-scheduled shifts and additional coverage when needs arise
• Load and unload food and supplies, ensuring safe and secure handling
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Maintain accurate delivery logs and mileage records
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and handling protocols during transport
• Communicate professionally with donors, vendors, and community partners
• Represent Above and Beyond Food Pantry positively at all times
• Assist with pantry storage organization and other pantry operations as needed
• Comply with all traffic laws, safety standards, and organizational policies

• This position does not include a set or recurring schedule and offers no guaranteed hours
• Certain shifts will be scheduled in advance when coverage needs are known
• Additional shifts may be offered with varying levels of advance notice based on operational needs
• The employee may accept or decline any offered shift based on availability
• There is no expectation to remain available when not scheduled to work
• Declining a shift will not result in discipline or reduced future scheduling opportunities
• Compensation is provided only for hours worked, beginning at the scheduled start time of an accepted shift

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Experience driving a van and/or 15' box truck preferred
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Reliable, self-directed, and adaptable to changing schedules
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Flexibility to support varying operational needs

• Willingness to undergo random drug testing

• Work is performed both in and out of a vehicle and in varying weather conditions
• Shifts begin as early as 7:00 am
• Position involves moderate to heavy physical activity
• No benefits are offered with this position
