Maintenance Technician – Chicago Parking Meters – Chicago, IL – Compensation $18.40/hour
Hours & CompensationHours: Tuesday - Saturday – 3:00pm to 11:00pm / 2nd Shift – 40 hrs per week
Classification: Full‑Time
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Compensation Package: Hourly Pay $16.85 + $1.55 Incentive = $18.40 per hour
Union: Teamsters Local 727
Benefits: H&W, Pension, L&E, Vacation, Sick/Personal, Holiday Pay as applicable per the Meters CBA.
Position OverviewThe Maintenance Technician maintains on‑street parking equipment to ensure it is in good working order.
Principal Duties- Drive fleet vehicle safely and efficiently.
- Check and repair when necessary all parking meters and pay stations, daily.
- Perform standard equipment checks including proper operations, paper supply, time accuracy, and overall appearance.
- Verify maintenance schedule for daily projects to be completed.
- Keep an accurate inventory of parts and equipment.
- Note and report any safety condition relating to equipment or place of employment.
- Perform housekeeping duties such as cleaning tools and equipment, shop organization, and other related tasks.
- Walk assigned route daily noting and correcting any maintenance problems.
- Paint meter poles, curbs, and equipment as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: 2+ years in a maintenance or technical role.
- Experience in general labor and/or assembly.
- Experience on‑street or route preferred but not required.
- Parking industry experience preferred but not required.
- General knowledge of local city or area.
- General computer knowledge and ability with hand‑held devices.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to handle challenging and emotionally charged situations.
- Professional communication skills.
- English language proficiency.
- Open to feedback and differing opinions.
- Sense of urgency and timeliness.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Team‑building and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of operating various motor vehicles.
- Unrestricted Illinois driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, and run for extended periods.
- Bend, stoop, squat, and lift continuously during a shift.
- Operate machinery and vehicles.
