Job Summary
The Athletics Supervisor is responsible for supporting and monitoring the athletics programs at the high school level, as well as working with the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Administrative Assistant, building Principals, and coaches to advance Cardinal Athletics and ensure administrative, equipment, safety, and compliance requirements are met.
GeneralThe Athletics Supervisor is expected to uphold the School City of East Chicago’s (SCEC’s) mission, vision, and core values in the leadership of Cardinal Athletics programs by building personal and professional relationships with administration, teachers, coaches, student athletes and parents.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with setup and supervision of athletic events at assigned school. May be required to assist with set-up and supervision of athletic events at other SCEC schools, as needed or as requested by the Director of Athletics. Duties include, but not limited to:
- Notifying the Director of Athletics or building Principal of the need for alternate supervision in the absence of either the building’s administration or the Athletic Supervisor
- Making arrangements for personnel and equipment necessary for any contest (e.g., Ticket Sales, Scorekeeper/Bench Personnel, Officials, etc.)
- Communicating with Facilities/Maintenance to coordinate facility usage
- Coordinate with the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Administrative Assistant, building Principal, and athletic coaches at the assigned school to schedule practices and athletic events and identify/schedule necessary transportation for athletic contests.
- Assist, as directed, in the daily operations of the SCEC Athletic Department, including but not limited to maintaining accurate records, files, processes, procedures, and account information and performing general office duties.
- Maintain an inventory of athletic equipment at assigned school and escalation items needing replacement or refurbishment to the Director of Athletics in advance of each sport season.
- Communicate/escalate issues immediately to the Director of Athletics and building Principal.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or building Principal.
- Minimum 4-year college degree.
- Minimum of 1 year experience coaching athletic programs or participating in organized athletics at the primary, secondary, or post-secondary level.
- Self-directed and able to work independently without supervision and as part of the SCEC Athletics Office team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated time management/multi-tasking, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. Evidence of ability to interact positively and collaboratively with coaches, SCEC faculty and administration, students, parents, officials, and the community.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and other SCEC systems or athletic scheduling software (e.g., Eventlink).
- Maintain high standards as a leader, while advocating the mission and pillars of SCEC.
- Experience in an urban school environment.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Ability to work non‑standard hours (after school, evenings, weekends), when needed, to provide event supervision.

Terms- Part‑time position (approximately 20 hours per week)
- 10‑month term (August – May)
