Overview

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour.

Information Technology - Enterprise Support Intern

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is seeking an intern in the Information Technology Department. The intern will gain valuable experience with an application development team at a wastewater entity.

• Learn about analyzing software and computer systems in a business environment.
• Learn the operating characteristics and limitations of common computer hardware and software utilized by the District.
• Learn programming languages and software used in the development of computer applications.
• Learn the principles, practices and techniques used in the documentation of application development.
• Conducts testing of programs and software applications to ensure they will produce the desired information or results.
• Performs revision, repair or expansion of existing programs to increase efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
• Consults with applications developers and other technical personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems and recommend changes.
• Confers with team members and clients to ensure successful functioning of newly implemented systems or procedures.

• Prior experience with Computer and mobile devices.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of Programming.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Can work both independently and in a team environment.

Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or related fields.

• Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
• Cover letter stating interest in position.
• Resume.

• Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program in an accredited college or university and will be enrolled in the 2026/2027 school year.
• Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
• You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.
