Location: Hybrid onsite in Chicago, IL (3 days per week office, transition to full-time onsite)

Duration: 12-month position, potential permanent employment

Compensation: Up to $96/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, holiday pay)

Cullerton Group is seeking a senior-level IT Software Engineer with a strong background in test automation and software quality engineering. This role focuses on designing, developing, and extending automated testing frameworks while supporting enterprise-scale applications and integrations. The engineer will collaborate closely with product owners, developers, and cross-functional teams to define test strategies, ensure high-quality releases, and support continuous integration and delivery pipelines.

This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who combines deep technical expertise with leadership and mentoring capabilities.

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for CI/CD pipelines using Java and related tools
• Develop automated functional, API, and integration test cases using existing automation frameworks
• Take ownership of business requirements and acceptance criteria to create test strategies and test plans
• Perform end-to-end system, integration, and regression testing across software platforms
• Extend and maintain API automation frameworks and performance testing solutions
• Develop scenario-based performance tests using tools such as JMeter
• Perform exploratory and manual testing as needed
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to test engineers across multiple projects
• Collaborate with product owners and development teams to resolve defects and enhancements
• Promote testing best practices, standards, and documentation

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (required)
• 8–10 years of professional software engineering or test automation experience
• 8+ years of experience designing and developing test automation frameworks
• Strong expertise in Java (3–5 years) and BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or JBehave
• Strong experience testing REST APIs and web services
• Proficiency writing SQL queries and validating data in relational databases
• 3+ years of experience with performance testing using JMeter
• Experience with full-stack, integration, and third-party system testing
• Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills

• Hands‑on experience with Python
• Experience working in AWS cloud environments
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git) and Dev Ops concepts
• Familiarity with API gateways (Apigee or similar)
• Experience with TDD, code reviews, and Agile/Lean methodologies
• Understanding of microservices architectures
• Strong documentation and technical writing skills
