Golang Engineer – Canonical
Canonical, a leading provider of open‑source software, is hiring a Go engineer to build and maintain the systems that deliver Ubuntu worldwide. The role is fully remote and distributed, with open positions for every time zone.
Responsibilities- Design, implement, test, and document well‑tested Go software.
- Debug and resolve issues encountered by users and internal teams.
- Participate in code and architectural reviews to maintain engineering excellence.
- Collaborate with community and colleagues to define technical specifications.
- Drive improvements in engineering processes and operational practices.
- In some cases, deploy and operate services built by the team.
- Advocate for the product through technical leadership.
- Undergraduate or post‑graduate degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
- Strong experience designing and writing high‑quality Go code on Linux.
- Passion for Linux at the system level and experience with Debian or Ubuntu.
- For senior roles, experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Well‑organized, self‑starting, and able to deliver on schedule.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community.
- Experience with performance engineering and security is a plus.
- Experience developing for Ubuntu Linux.
- Familiarity with Juju, LXD, Microk8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Pro.
- Performance engineering and security experience.
- Fully remote distributed work environment with twice‑yearly in‑person sprints.
- Personal learning and development budget of $2,000 per year.
