AMMONIA REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains the ammonia refrigeration system, building heating and air conditioning equipment, boiler systems, hot water generator, compressed air systems, building sprinkler systems and other equipment as directed by management.
- Performs PMs and repairs on compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, vessels, valves, and other machinery included in the ammonia refrigeration equipment.
- Works directly with all refrigeration contractors, electricians, and pipe fitters when they are working on the ammonia refrigeration system to ensure that they follow all company safety policies and meet work standards.
- Performs duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Supervisor or Engineering.
- Ensures continuous operation of all facility utility systems and peripheral equipment to support production schedule and facility conditions; coordinates all operations and maintenance utilities equipment.
- Coordinates both internal and external resources for maintenance of the facility.
- Assists in record‑keeping and training requirements for all components of the Process Safety Management/Risk (PSM/RMP) management plans to achieve compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Provides technical analysis and services to give real‑time data on the status of refrigeration and operational equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment to keep it in good working condition.
- Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and plumbing systems.
- Utilizes drawings, technical records, and vendor diagrams to complete Preventative Maintenance documents (PM's) related to machine overhauls and repairs.
- Handles maintenance emergencies as required.
- Completes duties in accordance with quality assurance, Good Manufacturing Practices, safety and other company programs and procedures, and in accordance with government codes and regulations.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area, including wiping and washing equipment and tools; sweeping and mopping floors; trash removal.
- Other duties as defined.
- Must have own toolbox & tools (toolbox will be kept in maintenance shop).
- 2+ years hands‑on experience is a plus.
- Trade school with HVAC‑R Diploma – Minimum Requirement.
- RETA Certification – Preferred.
- Ammonia operator 1 – Minimum Requirement.
- Ammonia operator 2 – Preferred.
- Experience in repairing refrigeration systems, pipe fitting & welding, system analysis, proficient in reading diagrams.
- Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company’s ERP & CMMS software.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English;
Spanish speaking is a plus.
- Full time 1st shift, 5am‑2:30pm (Monday‑Saturday) 12‑hour shift, as needed.
