Job Summary
Billed as a mobile light/medium duty automotive technician, this role at Cox Automotive Inc. (Fleet Services by Cox Automotive - FSCA) focuses on providing on-site, mobile maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles. The candidate will perform prevention maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostics, DOT inspections, and other customer‑location duties while continuing to develop advanced mechanical skills.
Duties- Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Travel to and perform work at customer locations, most of it performed outdoors.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light and medium vehicles in the field.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, lifts, and jacks.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various vehicle systems (electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, transmissions, clutches, differentials, diesel steering, etc.).
- Test and listen to defective equipment using scanners and pressure gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
- Determine required parts, order and pick them up for installation.
- Document work according to company standards and upload photos, parts used, and findings on repair orders using company‑provided devices.
- Complete DOT forms and all other required documentation promptly.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and assist in cleanup each day.
- Adhere to safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Participate in company safety training and other required training.
- Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Communicate with support teams for repair estimates, purchase order retrieval, and repair order findings.
- Maintain assigned service vehicle, performing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Supply a set of essential hand tools.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as an automotive technician on light/medium vehicle repair or equivalent education/experience.
- At least 2 years in a similar technician role.
- Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
- Understand implications of new information for problem solving and decision making.
- Lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
- Perform repetitive tasks without fatigue.
- Communicate information succinctly and organize communications effectively.
- Determine the appropriate tools and equipment required for tasks.
- Accurately judge distances and object placement.
- Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
Hourly base pay ranges from $23.65 to $35.48 per hour, varying by location and candidate experience. Additional compensation may include commissions and incentive programs.
BenefitsEmployees receive a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off (PTO) monthly, seven paid holidays annually, and additional PTO for bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteer time, military leave, and parental leave. Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship is required.
