Job

The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing all the electrical systems. This role is responsible for evaluating the Museum electrical needs, performing maintenance and installations as needed and prioritizing calls based on business goals.

This is a 40-hour/week, union-represented position (IBEW, AFL-CIO, Local #134) with regular hours and occasional overtime.

Responsibilities
  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit (including wiring through conduit).
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit‑breaker panels.
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Repairs faulty equipment or systems.
  • Installs lighting and lighting track.
  • Installs and dismantles permanent and temporary exhibits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Measurable Expectations
  • The ability to troubleshoot and complete a 120volt, 15amp, circuit repair of a duplex outlet, and single switch replacement in a reasonable amount of time.
  • The ability to complete required Preventative Maintenance assignments within required time as per work instruction/order.
  • Close out work assignments as schedule daily.
  • Accountable for all daily work time on all work assignments and/or work orders within the provided computer‑based system.
  • Ability to account for and document parts used for a repair or replacement on the required work instruction/order.
  • Responsible for inventory and reconciling inventory of all Electrical related equipment and materials needed to completed required jobs on a yearly basis.
Qualifications
  • Five years’ experience as an electrician is required.
  • High school or GED diploma is required;
    Associates degree or equivalent degree from a technical school is a plus.
  • Completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship and/or NFPA 70e certification is a plus.
  • Experience in the renewable energy systems is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
