Overview
Hawaii Water Service
The Electrical Mechanical Technician (EMT) is responsible for installation and repair of all electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation equipment in the production, treatment, and distribution systems of the district(s) under his/her assigned territory. This includes inspection, installation as needed for electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation elements in new construction of water and wastewater pump, treatment and storage facilities, telemetry and SCADA systems, and automatic control valves;
ensures that construction conforms to plans and specifications; testing, calibration, and repair of instrumentation including water quality analyzers, chart recorders, flow meters, transducers, and HART communicators; install, troubleshoot, and maintain water and wastewater treatment plant equipment such as motor actuated valves, variable frequency drives, soft start contractors, human machine interfaces, and programmable logic controllers. The position is located in Waikoloa, HI.
Functions
Participates in design, review, and construction of pump stations, storage facilities, and SCADA control systems
Installs new pumps, motors, and necessary facility operating equipment
Installs and maintains various types of control valves, both hydraulically, and electrically operated
Inspects, installs, rewires, and repairs as needed electrical circuits and elements in new construction of pump stations, storage facilities, and SCADA control systems ensuring that construction confirms to plans, specifications, and National Electrical Code (NEC)
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs all electrical systems including telemetry and SCADA systems, and automatic control valves
Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains water treatment plant electrical equipment
Inspects electrical equipment on tanks and appurtenances, which may require wearing a safety harness and climbing ladders above 10 feet
Tests, calibrates, and repairs instrumentation including water quality analyzers, chart recorders, flow meters, and transducers using electrical and electronic digital volt-ohm meters and loop calibrating equipment
Coordinates and communicates with contractors, vendors, and electric utility for facility repairs and maintenance functions
Researches and procures necessary parts for facility and asset repairs; investigate replacement parts for discontinued and legacy items
Prepares and operates a service truck daily including load materials and equipment, remove and dispose of debris, clean equipment, and truck as needed
Communicates with district staff and EMT supervisor including email, radio, and phone communications, and complete reports and daily progress using CMMS
Operates a Company vehicle for travel to work areas, safely navigating and parking vehicle as designated to ensure public, and personal safety in all job tasks
Performs work safely by adhering to Hawaii Water Safety programs and policies as well as reporting hazards and unsafe conditions
Conducts all water discharges with Company’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) policy including, but not limited to, implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs), monitoring and recording all required data, and completing necessary paperwork related to all discharge events
Notify district operations of the equipment and/or station status of operation prior to leaving the facility
Participates in and supports the Company’s Continuous Improvement program and projects
Performs other duties as assigned to fulfill business operational needs and objectives
Attends meetings and trainings as directed by Hawaii Water Service
Performs work on-site in the assigned office location
Other duties as assigned
This position will require air travel
High school diploma or GED
Extensive electrical experience working with motor and pump controls for water and wastewater
Electrical License Journeyman or equivalent
State of Hawaii Department of Health Water Distribution Operator II certification is desired
State of Hawaii Department of Health Water Treatment Plant Operator II desired
