The Position

We are seeking a Public Safety Representative (PSR) to join our dynamic team on Chicago’s Museum Campus. The PSR is responsible for maintaining public safety and security for Adler staff, visitors, the building, and the grounds. Key duties include conducting on‑foot patrols of a 155,500‑square‑foot building, providing outstanding customer service, acting as the first point of escalation for issues on the museum floor, and communicating pertinent information to building partners to support a safe and positive guest experience.

Work Schedule

Typical schedule:

22 hours per week, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Sunday. Availability for private events may require some weekends, late evenings, and early‑morning shifts, with shifts ending between 11:00 PM and 3:30 AM.

Compensation & Benefits (Part‑Time)
  • Base pay ranging from $19.00 to $20.78 per hour
  • 7 to 25‑hour workweek

  • 3 sick days at hire (can accrue up to 6.5 days per year)

The Person

The ideal candidate has experience in public safety and security management, strong customer service skills, and thrives in a diverse working environment. They are multitaskers who can provide coverage across the public safety division and handle emergency situations with calm professionalism.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of security experience managing emergency situations and following emergency protocols
  • Experience dealing with customers, troubleshooting, and/or managing stressful situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and take charge in escalating security situations
  • Professional interaction with visitors and colleagues under any circumstance
  • Proficient computer skills for typing accurate incident reports and daily activity logs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Minimum of 20 hours of security training (de‑escalation, active shooter, etc.)
  • Experience working in a museum or large public venue
  • Experience communicating with two‑way radios and public address systems
