The Business Development Representative is a strategic sales professional responsible for driving revenue growth through the development and management of customer relationships across assigned territories. This role focuses on identifying opportunities, developing new business, and expanding existing accounts through consultative selling and technical expertise. Success requires tenacity, discipline, and a proactive approach. The Business Development Representative partners closely with internal teams including Business Development Managers, Inside Sales, Field Engineers, and Customer Service to deliver comprehensive fluid system solutions that meet customer needs and drive measurable business results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Business Development & Sales Growth
  • Achieve and exceed assigned revenue targets and sales quotas
  • Develop and execute strategic territory plans to maximize market penetration and account growth
  • Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities with target accounts
  • Expand wallet share within existing accounts by identifying additional applications and needs
  • Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline with consistent activity and forecasting accuracy
  • Focus on engineered solutions and complex projects that deliver high-value outcomes
Customer Relationship Management
  • Establish and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with key decision-makers and influencers
  • Conduct regular customer visits, needs assessments, and business reviews
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, ensuring exceptional service delivery
  • Understand customer operations, challenges, and goals to position relevant solutions
  • Coordinate with Field Engineers to provide technical support and application expertise
Account & Territory Management
  • Plan and prioritize sales activities to optimize time and territory coverage
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in CRM system (account data, opportunities, activities)
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and regular reporting on territory performance
Product & Technical Knowledge
  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of Swagelok products, applications, and industry solutions
  • Stay current on industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging customer needs
  • Identify opportunities for engineered solutions and custom applications
  • Effectively communicate technical value propositions to diverse audiences
  • Work closely with Business Development Manager to align strategy and account priorities
  • Coordinate with Inside Sales for quote preparation, order processing, and customer follow-up to ensure a seamless customer experience
  • Share best practices, market intelligence, and customer feedback with the team
  • Represent the company professionally at trade shows, customer events, and industry functions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Engineering, Business, or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of successful B2B industrial sales experience
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Experience with consultative and solution-based selling methodologies
Technical & Industry Knowledge
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical understanding of fluid systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Proven ability to manage complex sales cycles and multiple priorities
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
