Job Description

Shift Requirement:
Monday–Friday, 30 hours per week, 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM with an hour break.

Note:

Food Manager Certification Mandatory.

The Daycare Kitchen Staff at The Goddard School is responsible for food management delegated by the franchisee. The food manager must have strong attention to detail and organizational skills. We have a warming kitchen and cater fresh food daily, so primary duties are food preparation. The Daycare Kitchen Staff may also serve as Support staff, handling tasks delegated by school management.

Qualifications
  • A current Food Manager Certificate from a recognized institution
  • A current Food Safety Manager Certificate (Approved by City of Chicago)
  • Ability to prepare, handle, and serve food in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Ability to understand and comply with the franchisee’s policies relating to food service and employment policies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with school personnel, children, and parents
  • Ability to plan and organize meals for various classrooms, including dietary and medical restrictions
  • Inventory management – dating stored food and discarding food after recommended storage protocols
  • Ability to cut, chop, dice and puree fruits and other foods as required by the various age groups
  • Delivering food on time to all classrooms
  • Documenting process flow, meal plan, and other related workflows
  • Ability to create, understand and analyze data and Excel worksheets for meal planning
  • The ability to handle crisis situations, including assisting in evacuating the building during emergencies
  • Willing to wear all protective gear as required by Food Handling regulations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Childcare and/or daycare experience
  • Familiarity with HACCP practices
  • High School Diploma
Responsibilities
  • The Kitchen Staff is responsible for duties outlined by the hiring manager, which may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Ensuring the safe handling and preparation of all foods
  • Documenting and maintaining food temperature logs in accordance with Food Handling Regulations
  • Preparing menu items including breakfast, lunch and two snacks
  • Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen and classrooms as needed
  • Serving food to all classrooms
  • Ensuring that menus comply with state and federal regulations
  • Complying with all applicable laws and regulations relating to food handling
  • Maintaining appropriate portion sizes
  • Midday trash removal when needed
  • Filling dispensers when needed
  • Provide classroom coverage during rest/nap times
  • Supply inventory management – planning, purchasing, and organizing supplies for the kitchen
  • The Support Staff is responsible for duties outlined by the hiring manager, which may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Be on time
  • Child drop-off/pick-up while adhering to set guidelines
  • Support a code of ethical conduct
  • When assigned to a classroom:
    • Cleaning and sanitizing
    • Active supervision
    • Helping teachers with resources
    • Assist staff with food distribution
    • Opening and closing checklists
    • Ensure classroom equipment is in good repair
    • Understand and implement The Goddard School emergency procedures
    • Promote healthy eating practices at lunch and snack times
    • Ensure children are within state ratio requirements
    • Perform minor cleaning (e.g., spills) immediately
    • Perform major cleaning when children are not present
    • Understand and adhere to the Goddard Systems Inc. Behavior Policy
    • Encourage empathetic and respectful behavior and environmental awareness via positive modeling
    • Respect cultural and ethnic diversity
    • Other duties as assigned
