Salary range: $23.20 - $23.20 (Hourly)

  • Hours:

    26 (+) Hours Per Week
  • Rotating Shift: 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM or 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM (rotating shift schedule); works every other weekend and works holidays
  • Union Compensation: $23.20/hour (+$0.97 evening shift differential); non‑exempt (eligible for overtime)

Responsibilities
  • Prepare room‑service menu items in accordance with approved recipes and plate presentation standards.
  • Show proficiency in all a‑la‑carte cooking methods including sauté, grilling, broiling, frying, and individual plating assembly.
  • Utilize proper quantity food production equipment such as tilt fryer, turbo chef ovens, floor mixer, pressure steamer, combi oven, convection oven, burner range, proof box, blast chiller, grill, and flat top griddle.
  • Prepare hot and cold food to order according to department standards, ensuring proper presentation and garnishing in a high‑volume environment.
  • Maintain proper portion control in accordance with standardized recipes.
  • Adhere to diet and allergy restrictions for patient food orders.
  • Ensure ingredient quality and maintain proper temperatures.
  • Perform assigned tasks efficiently during meal service to provide accurate and expeditious service.
  • Prepare multiple individual food orders simultaneously using full range of cooking equipment.
  • Follow established food‑handling practices to maintain food safety and comply with infection‑control procedures.
  • Document quantity and disposition of leftovers and over‑production; label and date product utilized.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently per established procedures.
  • Report all damaged or unsafe equipment to management.
  • Complete all assigned cleaning by end of shift, including detailed oven cleaning, fryer grease removal, floors, walls, ranges, grill, counters, broiler, griddle and kettles.
  • Clean assigned areas and equipment per standards and proper chemicals.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Complete routine projects or detailed cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Attend department in‑services, meetings, and production meetings.
  • Follow established break schedule unless otherwise directed by manager.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment for efficiency (portioning, dating, storage).
  • Maintain established supply levels for work area.
  • Notify management of workload status and availability for additional assignments.
  • Assist in orientation of new employees by demonstrating basic duties.
  • Respond to management requests promptly and positively.
  • Follow Best Patient Experience Philosophy focusing on food quality, accuracy, service, safe temperature handling, and presentation.
  • Meet timeliness and throughput benchmarks while maintaining quality, temperature, and presentation.
  • Prepare and maintain food quality in hot and cold production per standardized recipes and procedures to meet budget goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate
  • Two years of high‑volume diner or restaurant experience
Preferred
  • Food Handling Certification:
    Health Department – City of Chicago
  • Culinary degree and one year of high‑volume a‑la‑carte experience in a restaurant
