Overview
The Assistant Director for Research Compliance supports DePaul's research protections program under the Director of Research Compliance. The program ensures compliance with regulations governing research and activities involving human participants, animals, and/or biohazardous materials. It comprises three university-wide committees administered by the Office of Research Services and includes faculty, staff, outside experts, and community representatives.
Responsibilities- Work independently on duties related to the IRB review process: coordinate IRB submissions, facilitate the review process, conduct reviews, and correspond with investigators.
- Manage the IACUC and IBC review processes and administrative records.
- Write new policies, procedures, and revisions to forms.
- Conduct investigator and IRB education sessions.
- Conduct quality assurance and improvement processes and post-approval monitoring procedures. Assist in managing the Research Protections Coordinator in the absence of the Director to ensure workload is handled efficiently. Supervisory duties may include delegating protocol review tasks and other tasks to meet office goals. Supervisory time is variable (approximately 10%–20% based on need).
- Support the IRB, IACUC, and IBC in overseeing research involving human subjects, live vertebrate animals, and biohazards, including work by faculty, staff, and students, and related external and internal funding.
- Minimum of a BS degree (Masters preferred) and 3 years of experience in IRB administration.
- Experience with or knowledge of IACUC and IBC administration or willingness to learn about IACUC/IBC regulations.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply federal regulations and guidance pertaining to the IRB, IACUC, and IBC.
- Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities within deadlines.
- Preferred: experience with quality improvement and post-approval monitoring; CIP certification or willingness to obtain CIP after hire.
- Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Word; experience with SharePoint or willingness to learn.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students at varying levels.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to file and manage both paper and electronic records; ability to work at a desk for extended periods; ability to travel between campuses as needed with laptop and materials.
The anticipated hiring range is $64,662.00 to $76,506.00 per year. The posted salary range reflects expected pay; actual compensation depends on experience, education, and other factors including departmental budget.
