Founder & Executive Director, The History Makers

The History Makers seeks to hire full‑time Oral History Researchers to complete in‑depth research for its video oral history interviews and its subject‑matter categories. Those hired must work on site in our offices in Chicago's South Loop. They must have a background in African American, American, women and gender studies, anthropology, social history, economics, politics, STEM/medicine, the arts, business, etc.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct in depth background research on various subject matters to create in depth chronological timelines that average 30+ pages outlining the contributions of African Americans to that subject category from first contributor to the present as well as other reference sources and compiling a list of reference materials.
  • Conduct in depth background research on selected African Americans to locate their contact information and biographical information prior to interviews using the Internet and online resources.
  • Prepare detailed research outlines as well as long, short biographies and short descriptions in accordance with The History Makers guidelines.
  • Perform data entry using The History Makers File Maker Pro database as well as scanning documents and organizing them in archival folders after the interview is completed.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in African American history, history, politics, women and gender studies, politics or a related degree.
  • Strong administrative (type 65 wpm) and organizational skills.
  • Very strong researcher/writer, adept at proofreading and able to multi‑task.
  • Experience with detailed paper file and desktop management, able to do focused work for long periods.
  • Maturity of intent and ability to demonstrate interest in furthering The History Makers mission and growth.
