About the Department
Investigators at the University of Chicago’s Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research at Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care are investigating the medicinal effects of herbs, including those have been used in the Far East for centuries and are now becoming more popular in the United States. Researchers have already uncovered some possible benefits and serious side effects of herbal remedies.
Researchers at the Tang Center have long been collaborating with other investigators in the BSD, and will continue the long tradition of academic medicine at the University of Chicago. Chun-Su Yuan, MD, PhD, Director of the Center, follows the philosophy:
The most important thing is to make discoveries to benefit our patients. Thus, researchers in the Tang Center will not only target specific herbs or diseases, but also see where their basic research on different aspects of herbal medicine leads them.
Job Summary
We are seeking to hire a Research Technologist in the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research in Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care at the University of Chicago.
Responsibilities
- The Research Technologist position will be situated in the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) in Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care ().
- Familiar with in vitro and in vivo experiments with biological techniques, such as in vitro cancer cell culture and observations, western blot, and in vivo animal anti-diabetes and gut microbiome studies.
- Following protocols, designs, sets-up and conducts basic experiments.
- Analyzes data obtained from individual experiments and recommends alternatives to improve processes, validity and/or accuracy.
- Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting and entering data.
- Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan, and ensures project compliance with different policies and mandates.
- Manipulates, interprets and/or presents results, prepares charts and graphs.
- Performs scientific literature searches, writes reports and manuscripts.
- Provides technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

- Advanced degree in biomedicine or related field.
Experience:
- Relevant research experience (biomedical science strongly preferred).
