PSD Chemistry:
Moellering Group. The Moellering Research group works at the interface of chemistry and biology to understand and intervene in human disease. The group uses synthetic chemistry, cell biology, and mass spectrometry to develop novel platforms, tools, and technologies for studying proteomic interactions and protein functions.

Job Summary

The Moellering lab seeks an experienced Chemical Biologist to work on projects such as proteomic profiling in cancer biology. The role supports ongoing research, contributes to scientific direction, and collaborates with team members. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in collaborative research, effective communication and troubleshooting. They will learn continuously, build networks and help advance the university’s research excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan; collect, analyze and maintain data and specimens.
  • Conduct small independent projects, bench‑level experiments and computational work.
  • Compile research information and assist in interpreting experimental data and adjusting protocols, including drafting presentations or reports.
  • Assist and supervise lab members with technical duties in non‑clinical and clinical research settings.
  • Report data to supervisor and team, attend meetings and contribute to project planning.
  • Transcribe and record data, contributing to data interpretation and analysis.
  • Provide training to new lab personnel on routine procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain and organize lab space and inventory of supplies.
  • Interact with vendors to address equipment, reagent or supply solutions.
  • Comply with institutional, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures and mandates.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for research projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews and assist in preparation of reports, manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Participate in promotion of research projects and authorship of scientific manuscripts.
  • Serve as a resource for data collection and analysis, facilitating research progress.
  • Develop laboratory protocols and train on new techniques.
  • Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets.
  • Mentor and train laboratory personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Education and Qualifications
  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biology or related fields.
  • Postdoctoral experience and familiarity with higher‑education, academic or industrial research environments.
  • Experience and proficiency in analytical chemistry, quantitative proteomics, metabolomics, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology and related techniques.
  • Knowledge of chemo‑proteomics, metabolomics, post‑translational protein modifications, cancer biology and potentially metabolic disease.
  • Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures.
Preferred Competencies
  • Problem‑solving, organizational, analytical and coordination skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend scientific literature and stay current with field developments.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Strong time‑management skills and ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Prioritization of urgent tasks and adherence to deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changes in workflow and procedures.
  • Familiarity with quantitative mass spectrometry, chemical probe design, proteomics, cell culture, biochemistry, molecular biology. Experience with animal models is a plus.
Working Conditions

Standard research laboratory and office environments.
