About the Department

Investigators at the University of Chicago’s Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care are investigating the medicinal effects of herbs. Researchers have uncovered possible benefits and serious side effects of herbal remedies. The Tang Center collaborates with other BSD investigators and continues the university’s tradition of academic medicine.

Job Summary

We are seeking to hire a Research Technologist in the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Chicago.

Responsibilities
  • Situated in the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) within the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care ().
  • Familiar with in vitro and in vivo experiments using biological techniques such as cancer cell culture, western blot, and animal anti‑diabetes and gut microbiome studies.
  • Follows protocols and designs, sets up, and conducts basic experiments.
  • Analyzes data from experiments and recommends alternatives to improve processes, validity, and accuracy.
  • Maintains detailed records of results, including collecting, extracting and entering data.
  • Helps develop, design, and conduct research projects according to plan and ensures compliance with policies and mandates.
  • Manipulates, interprets, or presents results, preparing charts and graphs.
  • Performs scientific literature searches, writes reports and manuscripts.
  • Provides technical and administrative support for the research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens, conducts literature reviews and assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • College or university degree in a related field.
Work Experience
  • Knowledge and skills developed through less than 2 years of work experience in a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in biomedicine or a related field.
  • Relevant research experience; biomedical science strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Communicate with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong data management skills and attention to detail.
  • Read and understand complex documents.
  • Handle competing demands with diplomacy and enthusiasm.
  • Absorb large amounts of information quickly.
  • Adaptability to changing working situations and work assignments.
