Job Summary
The Inspector supports the Quality Control Supervisor and/or Quality Assurance Manager with all aspects related to control and inspection, involving but not limited to measuring parts with the appropriate and applicable measurement instrument, conducting visual inspection of parts per governing documents, and supporting compliance with customer specifications, internal quality system, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws.

CED strives to pay a competitive wage in the industry and regional market. The pay range for this position is US $23.50/hr to 28.75/hr
. Benefits include eligibility to participate in one of three different BCBS of IL medical plans, Dental (Sun Life), Vision (Eye Med), Life and Disability Insurance, 401(k) with a generous 6% match, 11 paid holidays, and 5 paid sick days (based on a full year of employment) and paid vacation.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with CED’s QMS.
- Responsible to follow and comply with internal procedures, guidelines, and policies.
- Responsible for completing inspection activities per applicable documentation and requirements:
- Apply applicable measuring techniques with the support of measuring tooling (e.g., calipers, micrometers, etc).
- Record all required data in applicable forms and systems (e.g., D365).
- Provide daily reports on completed jobs to supervision.
- Record inspection time in all applicable systems (Kronos, D365, etc.).
- Initiate and follow through on non‑conformance reports (with the support of supervisor or manager) through closure.
- Support internal audits as required.
- Support the corrective actions process as required.
- Support customer‑required test witnessing and exam of product functions.
- When delegated, witness test, prepare test reports, and acceptance data packages.
- Responsible for completing delegated activities under the guidance of the Chief Inspector or Quality Supervisor.
- Responsible for completing any other designated and/or delegated activities and responsibilities, directly or indirectly.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
- Comply with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Education:
A high school diploma is preferred. - Experience:
2+ years in a first‑line quality function (e.g., auditing, quality systems coordination, or inspection). - Experience:
2+ years in inspection activities in a regulated environment (e.g., AS‑9100, ISO‑9001, etc.). - Ability to interpret blueprints – GD&T.
- Must pass a vision test (including color test).
- Manual dexterity to manipulate delicate parts and instruments.
- Comfortable interacting with customer quality representatives and inspectors.
- Computational skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, D365).
- Demonstrable intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office.
- Able to work in a fast‑paced environment with low/high volume and high mix configuration.
- Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices.
Lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Routine use of a computer and extended periods of sitting at a desk.
