Pay Range: $29.36 - $47.79 per hour

SummaryUnder direction performs skilled work of average difficulty repairing and maintaining patient life support, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment. Also works closely in the clinical field interfacing this equipment as it pertains to direct patient care. Also maintains a strong clinical bedside involvement in the use of patient life support, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
RequiredJob Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelor degree with a focus in Engineering (Electrical engineering preferred but not required) or must have completed a two-year course in biomedical equipment repair or electronics or any combination of training, education, and experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Must exhibit basic troubleshooting skills down to the modular or circuit level and have the necessary dexterity normally associated with electromechanical repair skills.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work well with a variety of people including nurses, physicians, engineers, and other biomedical equipment technicians.
- Possess knowledge of basic physiology and the ability to interface medical equipment to measure physiological changes along with a mature attitude to work directly with patients in all areas of the Medical Center and Corporate Affiliates.
- Possess considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures, methods, tools, and materials used in the repair and maintenance of biomedical equipment must be demonstrated.
- Possess a good working knowledge of electricity, electronics, and mechanics entailed in the use of multi-meters, oscilloscopes and various testers involved in the performance of biomedical responsibilities.
- Has a thorough understanding and knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with these pieces of equipment and testers, which is essential.
- Skilled in the use of tools and materials involved in the repair of medical equipment is necessary.
- Has the ability to work independently in the repair and preventive maintenance programs on medical equipment; ability to work from blueprints, schematic drawings, and manufacturers handbooks is also required.
- Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center/Operating Room and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
- Work requires lifting 75-100 pounds and carrying or moving objects, some of which may exceed 300 lbs.
- Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
- Has laser certification or can obtain in less than 12 months
- Follows established procedures and monitors on an ongoing basis a preventive maintenance program for all areas contained within the designated areas of responsibility.
- Prepares cables, modules and clinical equipment of various types for the daily operation of clinical evaluation.
- Maintains a high level of interface and instructs medical personnel as to the safe use of equipment.
- Initiates requests for replacement parts and materials and is familiar with departmental policy as to the proper steps in facilitating the process to procure such items.
