Description:
The position is for a Stepdown/PCU RN. The shift is for 3x12 nights, but can accommodate 4x12 if preferred. The nurse will work every other weekend and may float within the facility as needed. A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience is required. Candidates must possess certifications in BLS and NIH, with ACLS preferred. Candidates need to have experience in cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
Nurses should be familiar with telemetry monitoring and the use of rapid response teams. Experience with post-cardiac procedures and management, as well as gastrointestinal and renal care skills, is required. The nurse should be proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and medication management, including protocols for heparin and management of cardiac and vasoactive drips. Required neurological experience includes managing patients post-craniotomy, CVA, and spinal cord injuries.
Experience in orthopedic and plastic surgery cases is necessary. Respiratory skills such as care of ventilated patients and management of tracheostomies are also required. Knowledge of isolation precautions and wound care is essential. The environment is fast-paced with a high patient throughput, typically maintaining a 1:4 patient ratio. The team includes interdisciplinary support from various services to assist with patient care.
Candidates should have experience in a magnet, teaching, or level I trauma center. Familiarity with charting systems, specifically Cerner, is preferred. The nurse should be comfortable working in a challenging and dynamic healthcare setting. Floating to another unit or facility may be required to meet patient care needs. Compliance with health and safety regulations is mandatory. Candidates should be prepared to work assigned shifts as scheduled.
