Role Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a vital executive-level clinical leader responsible for the orchestration of daily nursing activities. In this role, you serve as the right hand to the Director of Nursing (DON), ensuring that our facility maintains the highest degree of clinical excellence and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Clinical Strategy & Quality Assurance
  • Operational Excellence:
    Partner with the DON to direct all nursing functions, ensuring that the Nursing Procedures Manual is not just followed, but serves as a living standard for care.
  • Advanced Monitoring:
    Conduct comprehensive daily clinical rounds to evaluate resident status, identify high-risk scenarios, and mentor floor staff on complex bedside interventions.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement (QAPI):
    Active leadership within the facility’s Quality Assurance program. You will analyze data, coordinate with the Assessment Committee, and implement proactive corrective actions.
  • Audit & Compliance:
    Perform rigorous reviews of nurses’ notes and medical charts to ensure 100% accuracy, clinical descriptiveness, and strict adherence to physician orders.
Staff Empowerment & Management
  • Strategic Staffing:
    Optimize RN, LPN, and CNA staffing levels to ensure peak operational efficiency and resident safety during your tour of duty.
  • Performance

    Coaching:

    Lead the professional development of the nursing team through meaningful performance evaluations, thoughtful work assignments, and targeted disciplinary coaching when necessary.
  • Clinical Mentorship:
    Design and lead high-impact in-service training sessions. Act as a primary mentor for Charge Nurses, preparing them for future leadership roles.
Resident Advocacy & Care Coordination
  • Interdisciplinary Leadership:
    Drive the development of comprehensive resident assessments and holistic care plans, ensuring the "whole person" is treated, not just the diagnosis.
  • Seamless Transitions:
    Expertly coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharge planning to ensure a smooth journey for residents and their families.
  • Communication Bridge:
    Serve as the professional liaison between residents, families, and physicians, ensuring transparent communication regarding changes in treatment or condition.
  • Rights & Safety:
    Oversee the investigation of any clinical concerns or allegations, ensuring resident privacy and the unwavering protection of resident rights.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Licensure:
    Current, unencumbered Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Leadership

    Experience:

    Required:

    Minimum of one (1) year of proven experience as an ADON, Unit Manager, or Nursing Supervisor.
    • Preferred:
      Extensive background in Long-Term Care (LTC) or Skilled Nursing (SNF) environments.
  • Education:

    Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Clinical Expertise:
    Advanced training in rehabilitative or restorative nursing practices. Must remain "hands‑on" and capable of providing direct care (IVs, specimens, etc.) as the clinical expert on the floor.
  • Emotional Intelligence:
    Proven ability to make independent, ethical decisions under pressure while maintaining a harmonious and focused team environment.
