Position: Administrative Nurse III (Nurse Manager) - 7W Walter Payton Liver & GI Center

Location: Main Hospital, Chicago, IL USA

Salary: The previously determined range for this position was $91,769.60 to $
* annually. The final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.

This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date.

Position Summary

The Administrative Nurse III (Nurse Manager) is accountable and responsible for providing oversight of the department day to day operations, which consists of 20 bed med‑surge floor. The Nurse Manager participates in evaluative research, teaching, prioritizing patient needs, and providing leadership with resource utilization. The Nurse Manager serves as a resource for physicians, nursing and support services. The Nurse Manager identifies strategies to monitor and evaluate resource management decisions, process improvement and quality initiatives in the department.

The Nurse Manager relates effectively with department team members for high quality delivery of services and maintains high quality relations with other departments and nursing units. The Nurse Manager participates in all mandatory education requirements, maintenance of records and updating of policies, procedures and skills of personnel in the department.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Synthesize theoretical knowledge, evidence-based practice, research, regulatory standards, and clinical expertise to provide safe, coordinated, quality patient care to diverse populations at risk for clinical deterioration in collaboration with an interprofessional team.
  • Create and maintain a supportive and healthy work environment, fostering psychological safety, open communication, collaboration, and accountability; serve as a professional leadership role model.
  • Identify recurring patient safety concerns and participate in/lead problem solving, continuous quality improvement, and resolution; inform nursing service administration regarding needs of nursing units and specific concerns or trends.
  • Plan for and participate in formal and informal educational experiences to interprofessional members of the healthcare team to promote early recognition and management of patient deterioration.
  • Actively participate in organizational communication processes through timely review and response to electronic and written messages.
  • Demonstrate competence and ownership in all departmental IS applications.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and days when required.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a BSN required
  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent relevant nursing experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in Charge Nurse role.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications
  • National Board certification in relevant areaorrequired to be attained within six months of hire.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate leading, education, and therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers during emergent situations.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in nursing or related field preferred.
  • National Board certification in relevant area preferred; must be attained within 6 months of hire.
  • Business acumen and administrative knowledge
  • Experience teaching, working with clinical data sets, data management, and quality improvement initiatives preferred.
  • Experience working in an union environment
