Salary:
The previously determined range for this position was $36.08/hr to $80.98/hr final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a rate at or near the top of the full range for a position.
This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date (RNs only).

Position Summary
Staff Nurse I is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model. The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve outcomes by integrating shared leadership, evidence-based practice, and standards of nursing excellence into practice. Through therapeutic relationships, the Staff Nurse I is an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals, and will also adhere to the mission, vision, and goals of the Specialty Care Building (SCB).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and update the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.
- Share information and collaborate with health‑care team to promote effective patient care.
- Verify and implement orders from physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice nurse, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engage and obtain information from patient and/or family to develop an appropriate educational plan.
- Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patient’s changing needs.
- Delegate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act, providing support and feedback.
- Advocate for patients, families, and the community.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence‑based research, and current standards of practice to provide quality care.
- Assume role of Charge Nurse when assigned.
- Collaborate with other nurses to provide learning experiences for staff and students.
- Serve as preceptor and/or resource to nursing support staff and students.
- Identify learning needs and initiate professional development strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Establish database by assessing pre‑surgical patient populations, interpreting data to determine risk.
- Evaluate patients’ responses to care and consult with medical staff.
- Recommend changes to plan of care based on observed variances.
- Integrate nursing interventions into multidisciplinary plan.
- Identify learning needs and teach individualized information.
- Incorporate discharge/home care planning into multidisciplinary plan.
- Develop therapeutic relationship, enabling patient and family to verbalize requirements.
- Support patient self‑determination in health decisions.
- Competent in all peri‑anesthesia areas:
Preop, Phase 1, Phase 2. - Observe patients for side effects of anesthesia.
