General

Summary

The Employee Health Service Nurse uses critical thinking skills, professional judgment and leadership to anticipate, plan, direct and evaluate the care of the patients provided by a team of ancillary personnel, and assumes leadership responsibility as needed for a specific patient care area. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center.

Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.

Job Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process, critical thinking skills, professional judgment, and the attributes of Careful Nursing to provide care for the patient population in an ambulatory setting.
  • Assess patient needs to determine care requirements.
  • Include in the patient assessment the history, vitals, and any other pertinent tasks to allow the physician to complete the physical exam.
  • Administer prescribed medications and immunizations as ordered by the treating physician/practitioner.
  • Plan care and delegate tasks to ancillary personnel based on patient assessment.
  • Evaluate patient response to care provided and make changes in plan for care as needed.
  • Promote patient/family independence through education related to patient’s condition, treatment, medications, and ongoing self‑care requirements.
  • Perform clinical diagnostic testing and procedures that are pertinent to the provision of care as directed by the physician/practitioners, which may include, but are not limited to: EKGs, PFTs, audiograms, drug testing, venipuncture, and B.A.T.s.
  • Discuss patient progress, problems and needs with physician, company representative, case manager, and multidisciplinary team members on a regular basis to ensure that goals are achieved for the episodic event.
  • Ensure high levels of quality of care through compliance with regulatory standards, reference to current research related to patient care outcome and participation in the data collection and analysis process of ongoing quality monitoring. Refer to OSHA and NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) standards and apply them to the practice of Occupational Health.
  • Use supplies in a cost‑effective and efficient manner, and work with the management team to make unit supply level adjustments, additions and revisions.
  • Ensure that care is provided for all patients utilizing the attributes of Careful Nursing: trustworthy collaboration, health education, perfect skill in fostering safety and comfort, participatory–authoritative management.
  • Maintain a safe patient care environment by identifying potential safety hazards and intervening appropriately.
  • Operate and maintain equipment used in patient care in a safe manner.
  • Maintain a neat and aesthetically pleasing patient care environment.
  • Understand and follow infection control requirements in the care of patients.
  • Understand and comply with confidentiality and privacy requirements in the care of patients in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
