The salary range for this position is $60.00 - $79.67 hourly.

Description

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to work in our outpatient Oncology Triage Clinic. The APP will demonstrate clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities, including diagnosis and management of a wide range of acute hematology/oncology problems. Responsible for health outcomes of the acutely ill patient population, conferring with physicians and other health professionals, developing educational systems, mentoring students, and participating in quality improvement and research.

Shift

Full-time, 40 hours per week:
Four 10-hour shifts per week including a Saturday shift each week; three shifts Monday–Friday, days to be determined; no nights, holidays, or on-call duties.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities.
  • Responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population.
  • Confers with collaborating physicians and health professionals.
  • Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentors graduate students.
  • Participates in quality improvement and/or research.
Responsibilities
  • Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients’ health status by taking histories and performing physical examinations.
  • Provides direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prescribes/orders medications, therapies, and orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures according to privileges.
  • Evaluates patients to determine need for further care.
  • Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
  • Documents all care and education in the medical record.
  • Refers to other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Consults to other disciplines in areas of expertise.
  • Integrates research-based knowledge into decision making.
  • Exemplifies a professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation.
  • Advocates for patients, families, coworkers, and community.
  • Maintains certifications and continuing education as required.
  • Serves as a patient advocate and role model for “Patients First.”
  • Participates in committees/task forces.
  • Provides comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and families.
  • Develops and participates in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
  • Serves as a role model and preceptor to students.
  • Provides formal education to internal and external groups.
  • Participates in quality improvement and research initiatives.
Qualifications Required
  • Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in Illinois; or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois; or Physician Assistant in Illinois. May apply for controlled substance license and DEA number.
  • Privileged and credentialed through the NMH Medical Staff Office.
  • Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation – BLS, issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hematology/oncology experience as an APP.
