Is accountable to and performs duties under the direct, onsite supervision of the RN when providing delegated patient care. The GI technician contributes to optimal patient outcomes by providing delegated patient care after demonstrating competency. Communicates with patients and families, and strives to maintain a steady level of productivity. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and Hospital policies, procedures and standards.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMinimum of 1 year of GI Lab experience. 8‑hour shifts with varied start times 7am‑9am.
- Assists in data collection to identify the patient’s needs, problems, concerns or human responses, i.e., vital signs.
- Assists, under the direction of the GI Registered Nurse, in the implementation of the established plan of care.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co‑workers and physicians, identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families, and manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Consults other departments as needed and as appropriate to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
- Assists the physician and GI Registered Nurse before, during and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organizations and employers.
- Complies with ethical, professional and legal standards inherent in patient care and professional conduct, e.g., patient’s bill of rights.
- Participates in quality management activities as directed, understands practice issues and continues to stay educated in the field of gastroenterology.
- Collaborates with the gastroenterology team and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality and continuity of care.
- Follows regulatory bodies and the SGNA on the proper method to clean, disinfect and store endoscopes.
- Minimum of 1 year of GI Lab experience.
- High School/GED required.
- CPR.
High School or better.
Licenses & CertificationsBLS – Basic Life Support.
