About the St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center

St. Catherine of Siena is a DCFS 10‑bed co‑ed Shelter for medically fragile children (not ventilator dependent) aged birth to age 21.

About the Registered Nurse Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides quality skilled nursing services to Maryville patients according to the standards and guidelines of the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and direction of the Director of Nursing, the RN supports physicians and physician extenders in the provision of patient care. The RN is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the nursing process within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.

Position requires the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.

Essential Functions
  • Follow all Maryville policies and procedures, standard operating procedures for designated work sites/program, and medical operating procedures.
  • Perform patient assessment, examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Provide patient care and document conditions, interventions, observations, and activities in collaboration with a registered professional nurse.
  • Admit and discharge children utilizing appropriate forms.
  • Thoroughly educate and explain procedures to patients and family members and assist them in coping with illnesses and evaluating patient responses.
  • Orientate new staff when requested; attend mandatory in‑services.
  • Administer medications.
  • Maintain a clean, well‑stocked patient care area.
  • Keep inventory records, logs and maintain required records.
  • Complete assessment of assigned children.
  • Document patient care and/or status changes at least every two hours.
  • Process orders for assigned children.
  • Provide care coordination and leadership to CNAs.
  • Obtain specimens as directed.
  • Assist with ADLs and meals when needed.
  • Assist in the supervision and training of certified nursing assistants when delegated.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Develop and modify the nurse’s plan of care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience (Minimum Requirements)
  • Graduate of a certified registered nurse program.
  • Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Illinois.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to respond to questions in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Willingness to adhere to established departmental service standards.
Physical Demands
  • Frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop, and walk, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Lift/​move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds.
  • Impose visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions.
Environment and Scheduling
  • Work performed in designated clinical or administrative office settings.
  • Duties may involve contact with youth who may be threatening, aggressive, and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary.
  • May be scheduled to work on weekends and/or holidays.
  • Full‑time at least every other weekend. As needed: one weekend shift per month minimum.
  • Required to work a minimum of two fall/winter and two spring/summer holidays for full‑time. As needed: one fall/winter and one spring/summer holiday.
