Responsibilities- Assist the Charge/Staff Nurse to organize and deliver patient care and supervise staff.
- Collect and promptly report patient data, including pain assessment using the pain scale and documentation.
- Follow safety procedures and determine the appropriate observation level (e.g., Q15 minute checks, 1:1 monitoring, specific precautions).
- Orient and direct new staff in a welcoming manner, demonstrating thorough knowledge of hospital policy and procedures.
- Act self‑directed, recognize tasks, and take appropriate action.
- Use good judgment, requiring minimal supervision, but confer with Charge/Staff Nurse or House Supervisor when necessary.
- Provide nursing care within scope of practice to meet each patient’s unique needs.
- Assist in delivering care in an acute psychiatric setting for patients with a wide range of psychiatric and medical conditions.
- Practice the “5 Rights” of medication administration and ensure medication consents are signed before administering psychotropic medications.
- Initiate infection control interventions and update treatment plans when medications are ordered to treat medical issues.
Education: Graduate from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program.
Credentials: Current licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with the State of California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
Experience: Clinical experience in a psychiatric setting preferred. 1–3 years’ experience with military and behavioral health populations, preferably in an inpatient setting.

- Work successfully under highly stressful conditions.
- Make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and ethical principles.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members appropriately.
- Utilize effective reading, communication, written, and verbal skills.
- Apply math skills to calculate medication dosages.
