Position Summary
Staff Nurse I is accountable for delivering patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship‑Based Care model. The role involves direct patient care, shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration with the goal of improving patient outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Complete required orientation program and unit‑specific competencies.
  • Administer chemotherapy, blood and blood products, fluids, injections, and create individualized care plans for patients under supervision.
  • Recognize and treat cancer‑related issues and symptoms.
  • Prioritize and respond to patient’s changing needs.
  • Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, or advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Share information and collaborate with other healthcare team members to promote effective patient care.
  • Advocate for patients, families, their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrate commitment to UI Health’s values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a clean, safe, therapeutic environment.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit‑specific certifications.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
  • Intermediate computer skills with ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on‑the‑job training.
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
  • One year prior Oncology RN experience required.
  • Current Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy certification required prior to hire.
  • 1–2 years of prior infusion experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Outpatient ambulatory experience highly preferred.
