Description

Northwestern Neurology has a full‑time outpatient position for a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join our vestibular and otoneurology clinic caring for patients with dizziness and vertigo. The APP will provide care for vestibular migraine, BPPV, PPPD, vestibular hypofunction, Meniere’s disease and other otoneurological conditions, working within a multidisciplinary team of otoneurologists, technicians, nurses and support staff. Responsibilities include performing Frenzel goggle examinations, bedside BPPV treatment, and staying current with migraine medications.

Schedule:

M‑F, days; no nights, weekends, holidays, or on‑call duties.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise and expand knowledge through patient care activities including diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
  • Responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals in areas of clinical expertise.
  • Develop appropriate educational systems for patients, families and staff.
  • Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care.
  • Actively participate in quality improvement and/or research relevant to the specialty.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive appraisals of patients’ health status by taking histories and performing physical examinations.
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, x‑rays, and procedures in line with clinical privileges.
  • Evaluate patients to determine need for further healthcare.
  • Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
  • Document all care, education and procedures in the medical record.
  • Refer to other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Act as a consultant for other disciplines in areas of expertise.
  • Integrate research‑based knowledge and clinical expertise into decision making.
  • Exemplify a professional image in appearance, manner and presentation.
  • Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
  • Maintain certifications and continuing education required for licensure and privileging.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and role model for “Patients First.”
  • Participate in unit/departmental/divisional or hospital committees or task forces as appropriate.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs for staff to meet continuing education needs.
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor to students.
  • Provide formal education to both internal and external groups in the specialty area.
  • Participate in quality improvement and/or research initiatives for the specific patient population.
Qualifications Required
  • Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in Illinois and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in Illinois. OR current license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois.
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board.
