Lab Tech

Pay rate: $22.00 - $23.00/hr

Hours: 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday

Location: Chicago, IL 60638

Duration: 3 months, covering for a leave of absence.

Summary

The Lab Technician supports construction materials testing by preparing concrete test batches, performing standardized property tests, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. This role ensures accurate results for quality control, engineering, and production teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare materials, equipment, and tools needed for mixing and testing.
  • Maintain testing equipment and verify calibration.
  • Document test results in logs or digital systems.
  • Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Assist with sample collection, labeling, and storage.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow standardized procedures.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Knowledge of chemical mixing/batching preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently.
Work Experience Requirements
  • 3 years’ experience in a laboratory, industrial, construction, or hands‑on technical environment.
  • Experience using computers and spreadsheet software (Microsoft 365).
  • Experience in a construction materials testing laboratory or familiarity with ASTM/ACI testing procedures.
  • 1 year experience performing quality testing or quality audits.
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate degree or coursework in materials science, construction technology, engineering technology, or similar.
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification.
