Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description:

• Maintain plant electrical/mechanical systems and equipment in a safe and reliable manner.
• Provide outstanding customer service to manufacturing and support groups through preventative/predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and upgrading of plant processing, packaging, and filling line equipment.
• Serve as a technical resource to the plant, division manufacturing, and engineering groups.
• Support one or more mid to senior-level managers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Repair gear heads and reducers, run all types of piping including black iron, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and flexible tubing.
• Install various components including seals, bearings, o-rings, gaskets, adhesives, belts, chains, rollers, sprockets, gears, and sheaves.
• Troubleshoot and repair/rebuild centrifugal/positive displacement pumps, weld stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and fabricate guards out of sheet metal and Lexan.
• Cut metal with a plasma cutter or torch, wire and repair electric motors, repair basic wiring, and replace lighting fixtures and lamps.
• Correctly size fusing, motor overload protection, and wire size per National Electric Code (NEC).
• Read electrical schematics and wire directly from wiring diagrams, use electrical and precision tools to complete assigned work.
• Perform repairs to production equipment and plant utility systems, troubleshoot complex, high-speed filling, packaging, and conveying equipment.
• Make machine adjustments to liquid line seamers, bottle sealers, and bottle cappers, adjust timing systems such as rotary sterilizers.
• Ensure proper operation of electrical/mechanical components and devices (push buttons, switches, timers, solenoids, electrical disconnects, AC and DC motors).
• Troubleshoot and repair barcode scanners and video-jet ink printers.
• Maintain housekeeping of the shop as a shared responsibility.
• Accountable for maintaining various hand tools and equipment; drills, winches, micrometers, calipers, torches, welders, lathe, mill, multimeter, etc.
• Ensure compliance with applicable FDA (GMP), USDA, OSHA, and Client regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Be flexible to meet business needs and work occasional overtime, weekend, or extended hours.
• Manage daily assigned routine preventative maintenance tasks on equipment/facilities.
• Determine repairs needed to prevent unsafe conditions or to comply with Company and/or Agency rules and regulations.
• Respond to alarm or trouble calls as required and maintain a strong floor presence.
• Function as a member of the ATM Maintenance Team and assist as necessary to accomplish production goals and throughput initiatives.
• Address production stop situations and troubleshoot causes of malfunction in equipment, participate in implementing corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.
• Maintain good knowledge of equipment in the production area (including setup and operation).
• Attend to applicable training needs to maintain consistent service to production equipment/areas of focus.
• Escort and assist as necessary, outside repair persons in the performance of their duties in production areas.
• Maintain appropriate records of work, keep inventory of spare parts and materials, and provide Supervisor with needed information associated with parts or special materials needed to effectively perform repairs on all equipment.
