Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining plant electrical and mechanical systems and equipment in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. This role supports manufacturing and plant operations through preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment upgrades across processing, packaging, and filling line systems.
Maintenance personnel also serve as a technical resource to manufacturing and engineering teams, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal equipment performance while complying with all regulatory and safety requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment and plant utility systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair high-speed filling, packaging, and conveying equipment.
- Address production stoppages by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Make mechanical adjustments to liquid line seamers, bottle sealers, cappers, and timing systems (e.g., rotary sterilizers).
- Repair and rebuild pumps (centrifugal and positive displacement), gear heads, reducers, and electric motors.
- Install and replace mechanical components including seals, bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, gears, gaskets, and adhesives.
- Perform piping work using black iron, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and flexible tubing.
- Conduct welding and fabrication (stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum); fabricate guards using sheet metal or Lexan.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics; perform wiring per NEC standards, including proper fuse sizing and motor overload protection.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical components such as motors, switches, solenoids, timers, barcode scanners, and Videojet ink printers.
- Maintain tools and equipment including drills, welders, torches, multimeters, micrometers, calipers, lathes, and mills.
- Respond to alarms or trouble calls and maintain a strong shop-floor presence.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, manage spare parts inventory, and communicate material needs to the Supervisor.
- Escort and assist external contractors performing repairs in production areas.
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained within the maintenance shop.
- Comply with all FDA (GMP), USDA, OSHA, and Client policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as business needs require.
- Ability to function effectively as part of the ATM Maintenance Team to support production goals and throughput initiatives.
- Commitment to continuous training to maintain knowledge of equipment setup, operation, and maintenance.
