What You Will Do:
The Housing and Student Support Manager advances student persistence, stability, and wellness by overseeing housing operations, emergency housing case management, residential engagement, and key student benefit programs. Serving as the designated NLU HOUSE Liaison, this role manages emergency housing placements and coordinates care for students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in partnership with campus and external housing providers.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Housing and Residence Life, the Manager provides daily operational oversight of on-campus housing, including occupancy management, housing systems administration, billing coordination, and alignment with the Master Lease partnership. The role also serves as the primary institutional contact for the Student Health Insurance Program and the CTA U-Pass Program, ensuring compliant administration, accurate data management, and clear communication regarding student enrollment and access.
Working collaboratively across Student Affairs, the Manager positions housing as a core retention and student success strategy. The role strengthens residential engagement and community standards while implementing efficient, assessment-informed, and compliant processes. Balancing direct student support with operational coordination, crisis response, and conduct administration, the Manager contributes to a safe, inclusive, and developmentally grounded residential experience.
Essential ResponsibilitiesResidence Life & Student Development
- Serve as a primary point of contact for students seeking housing support, including emergency housing, temporary placements, affinity-based assignments, and transition planning.
- Serve as the designated NLU HOUSE Liaison, managing emergency housing assignments and providing case coordination for students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity at the University Center and through the DAX Housing partnership. This includes meeting with students, coordinating placements, monitoring progress, collaborating with campus partners, and ensuring continuity of care in line with the state of Illinois and IBHE standards and requirements.
- Coordinate daily housing operations, including room assignments, occupancy monitoring, roster management, billing coordination, housing contract administration, and termination or appeal processes under supervisory guidance.
- Manage housing systems, including eRezLife and Maxient, to ensure accurate records, enrollment tracking, and proactive vacancy planning.
- Collaborate with department leadership to implement an assessment informed, developmentally grounded residential curriculum aligned with student success and retention goals.
- Support Resident Assistants and student leaders through training, outreach, programming oversight, and community development initiatives.
- Advise and support the development and operation of the Residence Hall Association to promote student leadership and engagement. Facilitate themed communities, living learning initiatives, and faculty engagement opportunities within the residence halls.
- Manage assigned programming budgets and evaluate residential initiatives using learning outcomes and assessment data.
- Serve as a visible and accessible professional resource within the residential community.
Care, Safety, and Crisis Response
- Serve as a student conduct officer for minor and mid-level cases with housing students under supervisory guidance and maintain accurate conduct documentation with the UC Residence Life team.
- Respond to student concerns, crises, and emergencies related to housing and residential life, including after-hours calls for hospital transport notifications from the UC.
- Collaborate with Campus Safety, University Center Security, and Student Affairs leadership to promote a safe residential environment.
- Lead residential crisis response efforts in the absence of the Director of Housing and Residence Life, as delegated. Support crisis coordination and continuity of care for residential students in collaboration with appropriate campus partners and communicate incidents, concerns, and operational updates to Student Affairs leadership.
