Accounting Manager

Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Director of Client Accounting to lead the accounting functions for an established and growing condominium management firm in Chicago. This role oversees a team of 10+ accounting professionals and is responsible for the financial management of approximately 350 condominium and homeowners' associations.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with deep property management accounting experience, strong client‑facing skills, and a deep understanding of accounting processes, project management, and operational efficiency in a high‑volume environment.
Role and Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 10+ client accounting professionals, including hiring, training, performance management, and development
- Oversee full‑cycle accounting for 350+ condominium, rental and HOA properties
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly financial reporting for all client associations
- Review and approve financial statements, bank reconciliations, reserve reports, and variance analyses
- Serve as a senior point of contact for boards of directors, property managers, auditors, and external partners
- Ensure compliance with GAAP for select clients; local and state regulations, and association governing documents
- Oversee annual budgets, audits, and tax coordination for client associations
- Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes, internal controls, and workflow efficiencies
- Lead and manage accounting‑related projects, including system enhancements, process standardization, and portfolio transitions
- Partner with operations and property management leadership to support client satisfaction and retention
- Oversee and optimize usage of the CINC accounting platform, ensuring best practices and consistency across the portfolio
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA preferred but not required
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- 3+ years leadership experience
- Strong background in property management, HOA, or condominium accounting
- Hands‑on experience with property management software (Cinc, Appfolio, Yardi, or similar)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Proven ability to manage complex processes and multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated experience leading large teams and high‑volume client portfolios
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with boards, clients, and internal stakeholders
