The Director of Warehouse & Inventory Systems leads Blue Peak’s warehouse operations and inventory infrastructure, ensuring all rental assets are accurate, organized, maintained, and ready for deployment. This role is both strategic and hands-on, responsible for building systems, processes, and accountability within a growing and underdeveloped function. This leader will oversee warehouse operations, inventory control, equipment maintenance, and the implementation of a modern Inventory Management System.
The role partners with Production and Logistics/Fleet to ensure jobs are executed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
- Lead, coach, and develop a warehouse team of approximately 8 to 16 employees across seasonal demand.
- Ensure accurate picking, staging, loading, and return of all rental inventory, eliminating misloads, missing equipment, and inventory discrepancies.
- Design and maintain an efficient warehouse layout including racking, zones, labeling, and material flow.
- Adjust staffing levels, workflows, and procedures for peak and off-season operations.
- Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Evaluate, recommend, and help implement an Inventory Management System.
- Lead system setup, data accuracy, training, and daily adoption.
- Create and enforce SOPs for receiving, returns, inventory tracking, and load verification.
- Maintain real time visibility into inventory counts, condition, and repair status.
- Prepare purchase requests for replacement or replenishment of damaged or retired assets.
- Develop dashboards and reporting to track accuracy, throughput, and performance.
- Oversee inspection, repair, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to minimize downtime.
- Track repair turnaround times and equipment availability.
- Maintain a weekly Maintenance & Project List summarizing inventory condition, repair backlog, active maintenance and facility projects, and process improvement initiatives.
- Partner with Production and Fleet teams to align inventory readiness with job schedules
- Monitor and report warehouse KPIs tied to accuracy, speed, and reliability.
- Provide weekly updates to the CFO on performance and improvement efforts.
- Support planning for capital investments, equipment lifecycle, and warehouse expansion.
- 7 to 10 years of progressive warehouse or operations leadership experience, with event rental, logistics, or equipment intensive environments preferred.
- Proven success implementing or managing an Inventory Management System.
- Strong understanding of equipment maintenance and repair workflows.
- Experience building SOPs in fast paced, operational settings.
- Comfortable with warehouse or asset management platforms such as Flex, Net Suite, or similar.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Hands on leader who leads from the floor, not just the office.
- Balances rolling up sleeves with building long term systems.
- Takes ownership of outcomes and holds teams accountable.
- Operates with urgency, professionalism, and pride in execution.
- Values collaboration, structure, and data driven decisions.
- Continuously seeks improvement in processes and performance.
- Inventory Management System fully implemented and adopted.
- Clear warehouse SOPs in place across all core workflows.
- Meaningful reduction in mispicks, misloads, and repair delays.
- Consistent weekly maintenance and project reporting.
- A highly organized, efficient warehouse ready for peak season demand.
- Full-time salaried position based in Chicagoland, Illinois
- Competitive base salary, and an opportunity for performance-based bonus
