The Community Blood Center is looking for an experienced phlebotomist to join us as a Team Supervisor. This is your chance to lead a fantastic team that helps volunteer donors provide lifesaving blood to local hospital patients.

JOB SUMMARY: The Team Supervisor is responsible for leading assigned staff to ensure all blood collection activities are performed in compliance with applicable regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. This role fosters a collaborative, engaged, and service-oriented work environment while ensuring exceptional customer service for donors, sponsoring organizations, and the public.

The Team Supervisor ensures team members are properly trained, competent, and supported in their roles and works closely with the Collections Leadership Team, Account Manager, and Facilities Manager to maintain safe, efficient, and high-quality operations within the Chicago business unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees daily performance of assigned team members to ensure compliance with all standard operating procedures, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. Provides coaching, guidance, and corrective action as needed in coordination with the Collections Leadership Team.
  • Conducts regular check-ins, performance evaluations, and development discussions. Actively participates in recruiting, onboarding, training, and mentoring new and promoted employees to support professional growth and operational effectiveness.
  • Performs all technical duties associated with mobile and fixed-site blood collection operations, as required.
  • Serves as the on-site operational leader during blood collection activities by completing pre-operation readiness, assigning staff roles, managing donor flow, coaching staff and volunteers, and acting as a technical resource for donor eligibility and procedural issues.
  • Ensures blood collection areas, vehicles, and facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized condition in accordance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures adequate supplies, equipment, and materials are available to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Supports community outreach initiatives, special events, and donor scheduling activities as needed.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for vehicle maintenance by scheduling, coordinating, and tracking maintenance activities to ensure safety, compliance, and operational readiness. Partners with the Facilities Manager to ensure timely repairs.
  • Conducts regular inspections of vehicles and facilities to proactively identify maintenance needs and coordinates corrective actions with the Facilities Manager, Collection Manager, and external vendors.
  • Assists with follow-up discussions related to correction reports, audits, quality metrics, and performance improvement initiatives with team members.
  • Monitors team performance to ensure adherence to SOPs, regulatory standards, and operational expectations.
  • Maintains accountability for team performance, including technical competency, attendance, teamwork, flexibility, compliance, customer service, and overall collection performance.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels for scheduled collection activities by addressing call-ins promptly and arranging coverage to maintain operational continuity.
  • Participates in departmental projects, process improvement initiatives, and other assignments as directed by management.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalency required and at least 2 years of progressive blood center experience or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education is highly desirable.
  • Supervisory skills and experience highly desirable.
  • Trained and competent in WB and Apheresis phlebotomy collections desirable.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in the performance of operational tasks.
  • A high level of organizational skills required.
  • Skilled in accurate documentation with emphasis on detail.
  • High level of problem-solving aptitude

Reliable transportation for this position is required along with a current valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance coverage.
