Project Manager II, Power / Natural Gas Construction

Graycor Industrial Constructors is seeking a Project Manager to lead projects from preconstruction to final closeout, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance while maintaining cost control.

• Organize and execute the project safety compliance program within company policies, initiating safety meetings for on‑site supervisors and labor force.
• Interface with the client, receiving and communicating project setup information and periodic status, writing key correspondence, and representing the Company in meetings.
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of contract provisions and requirements.
• Analyze preliminary project documentation, such as code of accounts, subcontracts and purchase orders.
• Organize and plan the physical work execution.
• Develop the project schedule and direct long‑term planning and execution; coordinate schedules with subcontractors and vendors.
• Identify on‑site activities that may impede progress or violate contract requirements, prepare and submit related documents to the client or responsible parties, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain strict control of the project budget, reporting monthly on progress and profitability.
• Write subcontract agreements and purchase orders for field purchases; review and approve invoices, change requests, and associated documentation.
• Prepare, quote and negotiate contract changes with the client under guidance of the Project Director.
• Communicate openly with all support and business units involved.
• Maintain ongoing communication with local union officials.
• Promote goodwill with clients, architects, engineers to facilitate construction activities and future repeat business.
• Supervise on‑site project managers and staff.
• Participate in bidding, pre‑construction services, budgeting and continuous improvement programs.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
• Five or more years of project management experience in the industrial construction market, specifically natural gas pipeline transmission.
• Familiarity with lump‑sum, unit price and competitive bid environments.
• A proven ability to deliver Project Gross Margin on assignments.
• Experience in a “self‑perform” environment within a unionized labor setting.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage highly technical teams.
• Extensive knowledge of construction operations management.
• Strong conceptual planning and problem‑solving abilities.
• Leadership qualities that inspire commitment, monitor performance, coach staff, negotiate outcomes and create a collaborative environment.
• Readiness to travel to out‑of‑town assignments.
• General knowledge of quality and safety requirements applicable to the natural gas market.

Location:

Chicago, IL | Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000
