The Physical Assets and Facilities role is the primary steward of Old St. Patrick’s physical assets and equipment across the parish campus, including the church, rectory, staff offices, and the Amazing Space event venue at 625 W. Adams.

This role combines tactical/hands‑on (i.e., diagnosing problems and making repairs) and strategic facilities maintenance with long‑range asset strategy and capital planning. This position ensures that buildings, grounds, and building systems are safe, reliable, and beautiful, and that they support the parish mission, worship, ministries, and extensive schedule of programs and events.

The ideal candidate is an experienced building engineer or trades professional who enjoys fixing things and planning. They will develop preventive maintenance programs, maintain an accurate inventory of parish assets, and partner in envisioning the future of Old St. Pat’s facilities as the parish prepares for and implements a capital campaign.

Send resume and cover letter to jobs.

Specific annual goals established in the performance review process are considered an addendum to this job description.

Physical Asset Strategy, Management and Capital Planning
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory and database of parish physical assets (building systems, major equipment, furnishings, infrastructure), including location, condition, maintenance history, and expected lifecycle.
  • Design and implement preventive maintenance plans and schedules for all major systems and equipment; ensure work is completed and recorded.
  • In collaboration with the Parish Leadership Team, assess capital needs, prioritize projects, and develop a multi‑year capital improvement and redevelopment plan that informs the parish budget and long‑term financial planning.
  • Provide facilities and asset‑related input into parish master planning and capital campaign projects, helping translate vision into realistic scopes, phasing, and operational impacts.
  • Prepare scopes of work, solicit and evaluate bids, recommend contractors, and manage major repair and capital projects from planning through completion, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Coordinate required inspections (fire/life safety, boilers, elevators, backflow, etc.), ensure deficiencies are corrected, and maintain organized records of all inspections and permits.
Facilities Maintenance and Daily Operations
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operation, readiness, and cleanliness of all parish buildings and grounds so that worship, ministries, and events can occur safely and smoothly.
  • Perform and/or supervise routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance for building systems, including HVAC and boiler systems, plumbing, electrical, lighting, roofing, finishes, and grounds.
  • Coordinate seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal, seasonal HVAC changes, and storm preparation.
  • Create and maintain a work‑order system; prioritize and respond promptly to maintenance requests and building emergencies, including after‑hours and weekend needs in a parish that operates seven days a week and hosts a high volume of events.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and opportunities for improvement; document findings and follow‑up actions.
  • Determine when maintenance and repair tasks should be handled in‑house versus outsourced, and select, direct, and evaluate vendors and contractors so that work is timely, high quality, cost efficient, and aligned with parish standards and budgets.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and maintenance logs for all facilities, ensuring work orders, inspections, repairs, warranties, and service histories are recorded, updated, and easily accessible for planning and compliance.
Safety, Security, and Risk Management
  • Ensure all facilities comply with applicable building, fire, life‑safety, and environmental codes as well
