Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:The Zell Family Office (ZFO) is seeking an Accounting Manager to help lead the accounting operations for family trusts, personal accounts, investment partnerships and foundations. The Accounting Manager will ensure accurate financial management, reporting, and compliance, while supporting the family’s broader wealth management objectives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Manages accounting close cycle; prepares financial statements in accordance with close frequency (monthly, quarterly, annually) determined by management.
- Develops, implements, and monitors workplans and systems for general accounting.
- Reviews and analyzes the organization's accounting operation; establishes, develops, and/or recommends objectives, policies, and procedures to management, with an eye toward automation.
- Works with accounting team to prepare and analyze reports required by regulatory agencies, banks, investors, beneficiaries, committees and other external parties.
- Reviews and analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital to present for management.
- Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
- Develops project plans and delivers high-level work products within budgeted time and resources.
- Consistently identifies and works to implement process improvement to increase efficiency while delivering thoughtful, accurate, and timely work products.
- Creates and implements strategic project plans.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops accounting staff; manages schedules and workflow.
- Assigns duties and monitors quality of work; ensures the team adheres to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations.
- Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of the team; actively works to promote and recognize performance.
- Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas, keeps management informed and takes corrective actions.
- Liaise with internal teams such as the Investments, Tax and Family Engagement & Learning teams and develop strong working relationships.
- Provide timely and accurate financial reports and analyses.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.
A.) in accounting or finance or equivalent. - 5+ years related experience or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Basic competence in duties and tasks of the direct team.
- Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis and evaluation.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including creating and maintaining accurate and clear reporting.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization, including management.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
- Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
