Pay Range: $240.38 - $276.44 per hour

Summary

As a key member of the Rush University System for Health executive leadership team, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will lead and elevate the philanthropic strategy for a nationally recognized academic medical center with a long-standing commitment to the community. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CDO will shape and drive a culture of philanthropy that fuels innovation across clinical care, medical education, research, and community engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Develops a strong and growth-oriented philanthropy program that provides a critical source of revenue for Rush University System for Health, inclusive of Rush University Medical Center, Rush University, Rush Oak Park Hospital and Rush Copley Medical Center.
  • Responsible for the strategy and direction for philanthropy with a focus on the capital campaign, including staff organization and development, volunteer leadership, communications and special events.
  • Oversees Without Boundaries Campaign. Key campaign priorities include health equity; neuroscience; bone and joint; cancer; education and workforce development; innovation; and emerging opportunities.
  • Builds trusted philanthropic relationships that advance Rush’s mission to improve health for all.
  • As a member of the senior leadership, ensures that the campaign goals and priorities align with the strategic plan of Rush University System for Health.
  • Works as a collaborative partner with senior leaders and faculty to translate funding priorities into marketable philanthropic objectives leading to transformational gifts.
  • Works closely with the CEO, University President, other system leadership and board leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts at the principal and transformational gift levels.
  • Ensures the highest level of stewardship to donors and prospects.
  • Works with the volunteer boards and their respective leadership to build a prospect base, extend Rush’s reach locally and nationally and enhance fundraising outcomes.
  • Possesses a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; experience in cultivating donors across all communities and integrating inclusive practices into fundraising.
  • Ensures integration and collaboration within the philanthropy department and across other departments in the system.
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices in the non-profit sector.
  • Partners with colleagues across the organization to ensure that every staff member embraces their role in raising philanthropic support for Rush.
Professional Experience And Abilities
  • A minimum of ten years of management responsibility for building and leading philanthropy teams, preferably in an academic medical center, research university, or large hospital/health care system.
  • Proven track record of cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts from individuals at the seven- and eight-figure level, preferably within a medical and/or research enterprise.
  • Demonstrated success as an effective leader with expertise in talent management and mentoring, strategic planning, program implementation and program accountability.
