Metra’s Engineering Department is staffed with over 800 employees who work tirelessly applying technology and engineering principles in the design, construction, operation, and management of our network of infrastructure, facilities, and equipment so that customers can enjoy a safe, comfortable, economical, and dependable transit experience.
Responsibilities- Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Substation Electrician is responsible for the maintenance, testing, inspection, installation, removal and operation of substation high voltage conversion and distribution equipment. This includes but is not limited to 12kv ac switch gear, 4kv ac light and power switch gear, 2.3kv ac signal switch gear, 1500v dc rectifiers, 1500v dc switch gear, high voltage transformers, motor operated overhead disconnect switches, vacuum contractors and computer based “Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition” equipment.
- Also perform paperwork, inventory, vehicle and tool maintenance related to the position.
- Perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
