DuPage Legal Aid seeks a full-time Staff Attorney to provide high-quality civil legal representation to indigent residents of DuPage County in family law matters. Staff Attorneys manage a diverse caseload that may include divorce, parentage, allocation of parental responsibilities, parenting time, orders of protection, and guardianship cases.
The Staff Attorney will appear regularly in court, draft pleadings and motions, conduct hearings and trials, and provide direct client advocacy. Attorneys work exclusively within DuPage County, allowing for consistent court assignments and minimal travel.
This position offers meaningful courtroom experience within a collaborative and supportive legal aid environment, with ongoing supervision and opportunities for professional development. It is well-suited for attorneys committed to public service, including those returning to practice after a career break or seeking to build hands-on litigation experience in family law.
Staff Attorneys report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with a dedicated team of attorneys and support staff.
- Admission to the Illinois State Bar, in good standing
- Prior legal practice experience preferred but not required
- Strong oral and written advocacy skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage a caseload effectively and meet court deadlines
- Commitment to public service and serving indigent clients
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented legal aid setting
- Pro bono, legal aid, or public interest experience is a plus
- Ability to commute to the DuPage Legal Aid office in Wheaton and the DuPage County Judicial Center
